GIIST Conference at University of Basel (organized by EVIST Team)
Last week, between September 25 and 27, the EVIST team organized a small conference entitled Grassroots Innovations as Incubators for Sustainability Transitions (GIIST). The conference took place at the University of Basel and gathered an amazing groups of researchers from different parts of the world and in different career stages. The conference included a keynote lecture by Adrian Smith, various presentations about GIs from different perspectives and geographies, a World Café, and a final discussion about the role of GIs in sustainability transitions and the role of researchers in GIs. We also had the active participation of the students from the seminar Sustainability from the Bottom up: how grassroots innovations contribute to societal transitions.
It was a great conference and we are very happy for this opportunity to discuss more deeply the topic of grassroots innovations. We are very grateful to all the participants who made this happen: Adrian Smith, Giuseppe Feola, Johanna Jacobi, Paula Maria Bögel, Andrea Jimenez Cisneros, Ana Margarida Esteves, Gautam Sharma, Schwab Anne-Kathrin, Andre Girardi, Roman Hausmann, Brigid Letty, Mónica Ramos Mejía, Stefan Laxness, Jens Koehrsen, and Julius Malin. We are also very grateful to the student assistants who supported us during the event: Hagar Hamed and Priyanka Wala.
